Taking a Leadership Test will reveal your Leadership Personality
If you want to discover what Leadership Style you have, why not take a Career Leadership Test? If you are a natural born leader, you can improve your leadership ability by focusing on your strengths. Learn which leadership strengths are your strongest.
What is your Leadership Style? Have you ever wondered? This actually relates to what kind of career personality you have.
More important than style of leadership, may be how effective your management style is, because managers are supposed to lead their people. If you are in a managerial or supervisory position, or wish to be, how effective you lead individuals or a group will be essential to your job description, company profits, and keeping your job.
There are general theories about the personal qualities or traits that are required to be a leader. Although, one can be born with leadership qualities, they can be developed in one who they are lacking in, or improved through training.
Without a doubt, confidence is a mandated trait for the effective leader. But, not everyone is not cut out to be a leader, nor wants to be.
An essential part of effective leadership is recognizing those you can delegate work related duties to. The leader leads, he does not do all the work. His job as leader is to manage people as a manager, supervisor or foreman.
Another Essential Role of the Leader is to be able to clarify, and make sure instructions have been understood. It is better to repeat ones orders twice, than have someone do the entire job wrong then do it over again. The effective leader welcomes feedback in order to verify he has been understood.
The leader has to be able to recognize each employee’s capabilities. Everyone is different, and has different motivators. Knowing what these motivators are in each unique individual is the key to guiding employees successfully. An effective leader recognizes an employee's abilities and shortcomings, yet tries to empower him.
You may want to take a few career personality tests, or a leadership test to determine your style of leadership.
The most effective leadership style is unique to each situation. In other words, you do not want a drill sergeant style leader as head of an encounter group. This would cause more tear shedding than was necessary, and many would probably leave the group.
If you have leadership qualities, you may want to understand your style. By learning your style, and being aware that there can be many optional styles of leadership, you can become more flexible, and possibly learn to be a much better leader. A leadership test can help inventory your leadership traits.
Qualities of the best all around Leader-
- A do it my way or the highway kind of guy will definitely not be liked, nor supported. He will not get the best results from everyone. Although, he may have a special niche as a marine drill sergeant.
- Gets along well with different types of personalities.
- Is flexible.
- Listens.
- Takes suggestions, listens to constructive criticism, and is open to alternatives to his orders depending on the capabilities of the person/s who says he has a better way.
- He does not get personal, he centers his focus on the task at hand.
- He does not criticize, but focuses on the employees strong points and accentuates the positive.
- Knows who to delegate what projects to.
Leadership has to be flexible, because there is no right way to lead in every situation. To be an effective leader, your goal is not to be right- Your goal is to be effective. You want to lead people, and do that which will bring the best out of them.
For example, you will not have much luck, if you start bossing around a bunch of artists. They will likely drag their feet in protest. In the creative world of work, there is no forceful push. It is subtle, not demanding, with a lot of unrestrained movement for working ones own schedule, at his pace.
What is your own leadership preference? Taking a leadership test can tell you things about yourself you may not have known, or have forgotten. It may even verify what you already know about you.
Each leadership style is best for a certain type of work. Each style has its own place and time. For example, in construction, a foreman will likely be a little louder and more forceful, according to what kind of personalities the workers have, and to what type of leadership motivates them. It is usually always the best choice to use a more subtle approach no matter who you are dealing with.
Just like music soothing the savage beast, a softer voice usually works best with people.
You may have to adjust your technique of leading or directing people according to each situation. If you leave no room for adjustment, rigidity leaves you no options, compared to being flexible. More people will want to work for you and be willing to produce more, if you exhibit a little flexibility and kindness mixed with firmness.
Remember the expression, you can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make him drink? This is where the right Leadership can make the horse drink. You do not force, you only suggest he drinks, and wait a while for best results.
The best leaders are subtle leaders. The ones being led often believe it is they who are leading themselves. And that is what a truly great leader does- He leads people to lead themselves. Remember the great leader, Gandhi? Why not find out what kind of leadership style you have through taking a leadership test?
