Job Tests

Job Tests are usually standardized aptitude or proficiency tests. They include multiple-choice questions, and true and false.

Often, proving one knows how to do something, requires a performance test. In other words, if one were an artist, he would have to prove it by painting something, to get the job. If he wanted to pass the driving test, he would have to drive his car while he was being observed by the tester. The driving student would not only have to pass a practical side, but a written test with multiple choice questions.

It is not enough proof solely based upon what one promises he is able to do. So, how does one qualify himself?

Talk is cheap…

There must be an objective measuring tool or some way that will give proof to what someone says someone else can do, or what they say they can do themselves. This alone will help substantiate the claims of any referrals an individual lists as his job references.

Other practical exams which prove what one claims he can do well, may be called an audition. For example, this form of test could be used for someone who tries out for a part in a play, such as an actor. The viewing can either be in person, or through a video which is sent in for review.

Achievement and ability tests are made to measure the test taker’s intellectual and cognitive ability. These standardized tests utilize a norm, in which the test scores can be interpreted in relation to it.

Personality tests and inventories evaluate ones attitudes and behavioral traits. Through knowing his strengths and weaknesses, an individual can improve himself. Other psychological tests can determine if one has emotional problems, and disturbances within his personality.

The proof is in the pudding...

As for education, there are tests such as the SAT which assess aptitude for further advanced academic study; although the test does not take into account the totality of what a student has learned through the years. In other words, the SAT tests the student for an aptitude for further scholastic study, but does not take into account the sum total of his achievements and past educational accomplishments.
