How to Discover your Career Interest

If you assess your Career Interest and your abilities, this can help guide you to a job that fits who you are and what you are capable of doing, the best. You may be wondering what you want to do with your life. This is something many of us wonder about no matter what age we are. After all, we don’t want to get ourselves into a job that we don’t like, after spending all the time and money on training and education. We may even decide to Change Careers in midlife.

There are so many jobs out there in the real world of working, how do we find the ones that would be right for us? We want to avoid those jobs we won’t like working in. So, how do we prepare ourselves for a job that will suit us perfectly? Good Question.

It all comes down to knowing yourself well. This means, knowing what things you like in a job, and don’t. Your skills and abilities need to match the job to be a good fit. We need to utilize those skills we enjoy using the most, when it comes to picking the right job. Teen Quizzes can help you inventory your career interests on a printable list.

We need to take a moment to reflect, and take stock of ourselves…

• Our interests- Are we people persons? Mechanical? Are we a leader? Would we rather be organizing in our work place? Do we like to do research? Are you into the details and specifics of the task at hand?

• Aptitudes and abilities- What can you naturally do well? Are you a better writer than a talker? Are you naturally mechanical and like operating equipment or using tools? What can you do well? What do you do in your off time? What are your special interests or hobbies?

• What is your personality like- Can you work under pressure? Do you like working independently of others, or need to work in a group setting? Would you rather be on your own and unsupervised? Want to start your own business?

• Look at your education- What subjects interest you? Were you a leader in school? What did you lead best in? What subjects did you like, and did not? What did you volunteer for? What classes did you get the best grades in? What magazines and books do you find yourself reading?

• What conditions do you like to work under? Do you like working inside or outside? Do you like more mental or physical activities?

• How much money do you want to make? What about health insurance, vacation, and retirement benefits? Do you like working close to home? How about working nights and weekends? Out of state? How about working from your home?

There are a few things to consider which can lead you to the right job description…

• What kind of career have you dreamed about doing?

• Add up all your working experience, also including anything you like doing, which you also can do well.

• This includes classes you took in school, or any training, or certifications.

• Think about what education you have, and how it relates to the job you want to get into.

• Think about what tasks you enjoyed or didn’t enjoy in any jobs you’ve held in the past.

To conclude, all the clues you get from self questioning what your special career interest and favorite abilities are, can lead you one step closer to choosing a career which will last you a lifetime.
