You are your own Career Finder

You will have to be your own Career Finder on your Career Search, because only you can know what you need from a job. Remember, that when you are trying to find the right career to match the real you, you also need to look closely at that job you have passion for. If you happen to know which job is your ideal career choice, you must make the connection between your present abilities that you enjoy using, your education, past training, and match all these to that job which requires them.

You will find your Ideal Career if you know where and how to look for it.

The major search engines are one place. Another excellent career finder, for searching career descriptions, salaries, and future job outlook, is the BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook.

But, one has to know his job capabilities well, first. If you are not qualified for the job, you won't get into it. So, if you need the training and education, you need to research to make sure your qualifications fit the job description. A good sign you may have found your perfect job, is if when you complete a career assessment test, it shows you have the aptitude for doing that particular job you are interested in. Unfortunately, you may not know that you are passionate about the job, or know you will love doing it until you are in that job, or at least take on a part time job in the field.

What is Your Gift?

It is of the utmost importance that you understand your personality and your talents (Gifts). You must be able, as your own career finder, to decide which careers are a possible good fit for the kind of person you are. If you are young, you may not have enough working experience to know what you like to do. And, if you take a few career tests, and are unclear about your likes and dislikes in terms of careers, you may not get many career recommendations on their printout.

The tests merely reflect your testing input. If you do get a long list of career choices, this may not hold the ideal career you may have in mind. Let any list serve as career ideas for further investigation. The career you finally choose may not even be related to any on the list, especially if you have worked in some of your choices in temporary or volunteer jobs. You may find in reality, through actually working a temp or volunteer job, what job duties you prefer, and do not like doing through the experience.

You are not composed of separate parts, but are an integrated person. Who you are, in terms of matching yourself to the best career is a personality type with certain preferred natural abilities and aptitudes. You don't just take part of you to do a career; it is the whole completeness of you that must blend into your career choice. Your job will become your lifestyle, and part of who you are as a unique individual.
