Career Assessment Inventory Tests

There are some very important things to keep in mind while searching for reliable Career Assessment Inventory Tests. First of all, how was the career assessment test made? Tests that are researched usually charge a fee. Research costs money for salaries and related expenses.

What does the test measure about you? If a test does not measure what it is supposed to measure, and do it consistently, then it is not a valid test. There are studies performed that support the validity of any test. So, how does one find this out?

There should be a manual that goes along with the test that tells how the test was put together. Does it meet the Professional Standards for test validity? Who endorses the test? Check these references out, too.

They may classify you with personality traits that are not necessarily yours. You do not want to take the chance of a career mismatch. A test has to be able to measure traits about you accurately, every time.

To truly know that an aptitude test can be relied upon, it has to be a scientifically validated test. Not all tests on the internet (free or not free) are necessarily these types of tried and true tests.

All has to be weighed against your core values.

Chances are a lot better that with a reputable career test; you will get career choices that will suit your personality and aptitudes. Other unproven tests may say you should be a Policeman; when in fact, you should be pursuing a career that is more Artistic in nature.

Your intuition and gut feelings are important in career decision making. Don't ignore, or downplay them as nonsense. Once you have all the facts about your abilities, skills, aptitudes, talents, interests and values, you should be able to make your best career choice with the information. If a Career pick just doesn't feel right to you, that's a danger sign not to do it, and to do more research.

It is also recommended that you see a qualified and certified career guidance counselor. He should be aware of all the tests that have valid reliability. There are state licenses and national licenses the counselor may possess. Know the state requirements that are required for him to be a certified career guidance counselor. There are also courses they have to take, along with periodic testing for them to stay certified. Check with your State's Dept. of Consumer Affairs. Make sure the advice you are getting is from a counselor who knows what he is talking about.
