Finding your Best Careers could depend upon having extra time to think things out, while dreaming a little. It might not seem like it, but being unemployed could be just the thing you need to have happen to you. When we are busy working full time, we are not usually focused on what other jobs we would like to do for a living. But, when we get some time to think, like on a vacation, (Or, layoff) we may start wishing we were in a better job and decide to do a new Career Search to see what kinds of jobs are out there.
There are so many jobs to choose from, how do we know which occupation we will like doing best? How does one choose between something he could learn in a vocational school within six months to a year, a college education taking four or more years with no guarantee of employment when finished, or other career choices with on the job training?
Knowing Self and Career Search
It all comes down to knowing yourself well, and what it is you want to do. In order to choose a job we would love to do, we have to know ourselves very well, first. Making the best career decision is important, yet not the end of the world if one makes a mistake. The younger one is, the more time he has to recover from poor career or job choices. Many of us change our minds through the years about our chosen jobs anyway, even though we thought we chose our ideal job, in the beginning.
The best careers are those that do not always bring the most money and benefits packages. Don't let your Ideal Career slip by simply because it doesn't pay as well as other careers. Don't let salary be the only criteria for choosing your career.
If there is no passion in your job, it is definitely not the best job for you, no matter what it pays. In other words, you may be making more money, but you won't be happy. If you do not love what you are doing, you will be depriving yourself in the long run of true career success, and the personal happiness that comes with doing a job you love to do. If you do love what you do, and the money is not there yet, be assured it will come to you later on.
Decision Making Time – Where are the High Paying Jobs?
Many struggle with deciding what they want to do with the rest of their lives. It’s a difficult decision choosing the right career which matches your aptitude, and personality. We want to take great care, because we do not want to be hasty and choose a career mismatch. Career decision making is complex and has good or bad future consequences.
Everything in life is uncertain, and there are no guarantees. We may not only change our minds about those things we value through time, but also what we are interested in, and like to do in a job. The economy may change, and the future outlook for any job we choose may be dim. Even circumstances beyond our control can push our lives in an entirely new direction.
We can itemize our short and long term career goals, and define what it is we actually need in a job (According to our values.) This is part of a solid career planning strategy, and one of the best things we can do to help ourselves pick the right career.
